A failed remote does not automatically mean the gate operator has failed. The fastest safe test is to compare access devices. If one device opens the gate and another does not, focus on the device, its programming, power source or receiver path.
If the keypad works but the remote does not
- Try a second known-working remote.
- Replace the transmitter battery with the specified type.
- Confirm that the transmitter is compatible with the installed receiver.
- Note whether range has decreased for every remote, which may point to the receiver or antenna rather than one transmitter.
If the remote works but the keypad does not
- Try a known-valid code and listen for the keypad’s normal tone or relay response.
- Replace the keypad battery only if the model uses one.
- Look for visible storm, insect or water damage.
- For HOA or multifamily systems, confirm that the credential is still active and within its permitted schedule.
Safety: Do not factory-reset a community keypad or receiver unless you have an authorized credential backup and the correct programming plan. A reset can remove access for every user.
When to call KDI
Call when all remotes fail, multiple valid keypad codes stop working, range suddenly collapses, or the receiver and controller signal path must be tested. Request automatic gate service or call (843) 730-0215.
